Troubleshooting
What to do when Pantaray asks you to set up a connection, asks you to sign in again, stops suggesting, or cannot reach your files.
“Choose how to connect before sending an Action”
Pantaray has no AI to work with yet.
Open Settings → AI connection and check Current route. If Inference reads Not set up, pick an option under Connect with and finish it:
- API key needs both a Model and a key. Saving only one leaves the connection incomplete.
- ChatGPT account needs a completed sign-in and a Model.
If you have just changed something, give it a moment. The section shows Applying changes… while it takes effect.
“The ChatGPT session could not be refreshed”
Press Sign in again in Settings → AI connection and complete the sign-in in your browser. A saved API key is not used instead while this is unresolved.
A key is rejected
The message says the request was not authenticated. Check in your provider’s console that the key is still active and has credit, then Replace it in Settings → AI connection.
If you recently changed plans or projects with the provider, the key may no longer cover the model you set.
“Model not found”, or the model cannot do something
Two different problems:
- Not found: the provider does not recognise that id on your account. Check the spelling against your provider’s documentation. Use your own API key lists the suggested ids.
- Cannot do what was asked: the model works, but lacks something the step needs, such as reading images or using tools. Switch to a more capable model.
No suggestions are appearing
Check these in order:
- Is recording on? Settings → Computer activity recording should show Active. If it shows Paused, switch it on.
- Are the permissions granted? If Pantaray shows the Start recording panel, they are not. See macOS permissions.
- Is a connection set up? Current route must not read Not set up.
- Has enough time passed? Suggestions come at most once every fifteen minutes, and only when there is something worth saying.
- Is your filter too narrow? If it is set to Include only these apps with a short list, Pantaray sees very little. See Stop recording, or limit what is recorded.
An Action cannot reach a file
Edits and commands only happen inside the folders registered in Workspace. Add the folder to a project and try again. See Choose which folders Pantaray can use.
If Pantaray cannot even read a file, check Read access in Settings → Action permissions. Workspace only limits reading to your workspace; Full local filesystem lets it read anywhere.
“This system cannot encrypt stored credentials”
Pantaray stores keys only in encrypted form, so it declines to save one it cannot encrypt. This usually means macOS’s keychain is not available to the app. Restart your Mac, and make sure your login keychain is unlocked.
An Action stopped by itself
Changing your connection method, provider, model, or key stops a running Action.
Nothing is lost. Reopen the conversation from History and send another message to continue.
Something else
Search the issue tracker and open an issue if you do not find it. Include your Pantaray version, shown under Pantaray → About Pantaray in the menu bar, and your macOS version.
Please do not attach logs, screenshots of your work, or an Action transcript to a public issue: they contain your own activity. A description of what you did and what happened is enough.
For a security or privacy problem, use private reporting instead of a public issue.
