Install Pantaray and set it up

Download Pantaray, connect it to an AI, and turn on recording.

Setting up Pantaray takes three steps: install it, tell it which AI to use, and let it start recording. You need a Mac with Apple silicon.

Install the app

1. Download Pantaray.dmg.
2. Open it and drag Pantaray into your Applications folder.
3. Open Pantaray from Applications.

Pantaray is signed and notarized, so macOS opens it without extra warnings. It keeps itself up to date: it checks for a new version when it starts and every six hours after that, and installs the update the next time you quit.

Connect to an AI

Open Settings, then AI connection, and pick one of the two options under Connect with:

Each one has its own article: ChatGPT account · API key.

At the top of the section, Current route tells you what is being used. Until something is set up it reads Not set up, and Actions will tell you to come back here.

Further down the same section there is a Web search box. Adding a Tavily key lets Actions search the web. It is optional, and everything else works without it.

Turn on recording

Pantaray follows your work from the recording, so turn it on next.

A panel titled Start recording appears in the Pantaray window while the permissions are missing. It says what is recorded, what is excluded, and how long it is kept. Press Start recording to begin, or Later if you are not ready. It comes back when you are.

macOS now asks for the permissions Pantaray needs. Allow them when the dialogs appear:

• Accessibility is required. Without it nothing is recorded.
• Input Monitoring covers what you type.
• Automation for Google Chrome or Safari covers the page you are looking at.

If a dialog does not appear, or Pantaray still reports a permission as missing after you allowed it, the panel shows Open System Settings and takes you to the right pane. Then press Start recording again.

Once recording is running you can turn it off and on again at any time from Settings → Computer activity recording, where the switch shows On or Off and the heading shows Active or Paused. The heading reads Active once recording has started, and Pantaray names any permission that is still missing.

Screen Recording is not requested here. macOS asks for it separately, the first time an Action needs to look at your screen.

Start using it

Press the New conversation shortcut from any app and write what you want done. The key is shown in Settings → Keyboard shortcut.

You can also just work. Pantaray follows what you are doing from the recording and proposes something when it judges the interruption worthwhile, at most once every fifteen minutes. Suggestions appear as small panels in the top-right corner of your screen.
