Short answers about cost, privacy, recording, accounts, and what Pantaray does with your work.

Is Pantaray free?

The app itself is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. What you may pay for is the AI you connect it to: an API key is billed by that provider, and a ChatGPT sign-in uses the plan you already have.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. You can run Pantaray entirely on your own ChatGPT sign-in or your own API key, without registering with us.

Is this a keylogger?

Pantaray does record what you type, and it says so before you turn recording on. Password fields are never recorded, and password managers are excluded entirely, which cannot be switched off.

The recording file stays on this Mac and is deleted after 48 hours. The parts needed for suggestions and Actions are sent to the AI you chose, and what you typed can be part of that.

Does it take screenshots?

Not for recording. Pantaray reads the information macOS already exposes to assistive software. Your screen is captured only when an Action needs to look at it, and macOS asks for Screen Recording permission separately the first time.

Where is my data stored?

In Pantaray’s own folder inside ~/Library/Application Support on this Mac. The recording is encrypted and is deleted after 48 hours. Your conversations and what Pantaray remembers stay until you delete them. See What Pantaray records, and where it is kept.

What does Pantaray send to the AI?

The parts of the recording needed to make a suggestion or carry out an Action, which can include the text on screen, what you typed, and page addresses. Pantaray does this on its own while recording is on, not only when you ask for something.

Which AI receives it is whichever one you set up in Settings → AI connection.

Can Pantaray delete my files or send an email without asking?

Only if you set that conversation to Auto-approve. By default every file change and every command stops and shows you exactly what it wants to do. Changes are also limited to the folders you registered in Workspace. See Approve or deny what Pantaray wants to do.

Can I use it on a work Mac?

Pantaray records your own activity on your own machine. If the Mac is managed by your employer, follow your organization’s policies first. Recording screen contents can include other people’s messages and documents.

Does it work offline?

No. Thinking happens at the AI you connected to, which needs a network. Recording continues offline, and Pantaray catches up once you are connected again.

Does it collect analytics?

No. There is no usage tracking, no analytics, and no way for Pantaray to upload its logs. Its logs stay in ~/Library/Logs on this Mac.

Why did a suggestion never arrive?

Suggestions come at most once every fifteen minutes, and only when Pantaray judges the interruption worth it. Quiet stretches are normal. If you are getting none at all, see Troubleshooting.

How do I uninstall it?

Quit Pantaray and drag it from Applications to the Trash. To remove your data too:

1. Delete Pantaray’s folder inside ~/Library/Application Support.
2. Delete its folder in ~/Library/Logs, a separate place that the first deletion leaves behind.
3. Open Keychain Access, search for Pantaray, and delete the entries it used to encrypt what it stored. Once the folders are gone these unlock nothing, and they are left behind.
4. Remove its entries in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Where do I report a bug?

On the issue tracker. Do not attach logs or transcripts, which contain your activity. For a security or privacy problem, use private reporting.
